Choose the right type

Which kind of printer do you need?

The biggest cost of a printer is usually ink or toner, not the printer itself. Think about how much you print before you buy.

Step‑by‑step setup

Connect your printer to Wi‑Fi and your phone

Choose your printer's brand. The guides below change to match it.

Menu names differ a little between models. If a step doesn't match your screen, check your printer's manual for the closest option.

iPhone and iPad: AirPrint

Most modern Wi‑Fi printers support AirPrint, so you don't need an app. Join the same Wi‑Fi as the printer, open a photo or document, tap Share → Print, then choose your printer.

Android: Default Print Service

Android has printing built in (Mopria). Join the same Wi‑Fi as the printer, open the file, tap ⋮ menu → Print, then pick your printer from the list at the top.

Troubleshooting

When the printer won't connect

The printer can't find my Wi‑Fi network

Most home printers only work on the 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi band.

  • If your router shows two networks (for example “Home” and “Home‑5G”), choose the one without 5G.
  • If your router combines both bands under one name, move the printer closer to the router during setup.
  • Check that the network name and password are typed exactly, including capital letters.
My phone app doesn't see the printer
  • Make sure your phone and printer are on the same Wi‑Fi network, not mobile data or a guest network.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and location for the app during setup. Many apps use them to find new printers.
  • Turn off any VPN on your phone while setting up.
It worked before but now says “offline”
  • Turn the printer off, then restart your router and wait two minutes before turning the printer back on.
  • Print a network configuration page from the printer's menu to check it is still connected.
  • If you changed your Wi‑Fi password or router, run the Wi‑Fi setup again.
Should I update the printer's firmware?

Yes. Updates fix connection bugs and security problems. You can usually update from the printer's menu or from the brand's phone app. Keep the printer switched on until the update finishes.

Where can I get official help?

For warranty, repairs or drivers, go to the manufacturer's own website by typing it yourself: hp.com, canon.com, epson.com or brother.com. Be careful with pop‑ups or search ads that ask you to call a “printer support” number or let someone control your computer.
